...There is an Enhanced Risk (level 3/5) of severe thunderstorms over
parts of the Southern Plains and adjacent Lower Mississippi Valley on
Friday and Saturday...
...Snow for the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Great
Basin, and Northern/Central Rockies...
A front extending from the Upper Mississippi Valley to the
Central/Southern Plains on Friday will move eastward off the Eastern
Seaboard by Sunday afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms will develop along
and ahead of the boundary from the Upper/Middle Mississippi Valley to the
Central Plains. Severe thunderstorms will develop over parts of the
Southern Plains and the adjacent Lower Mississippi Valley. Therefore, the
SPC has issued an Enhanced Risk (level 3/5) of severe thunderstorms over
parts of the Southern Plains and adjacent Lower Mississippi Valley. The
hazards associated with these thunderstorms are frequent lightning, severe
thunderstorm wind gusts, hail, and a few tornadoes.
In addition, the system will produce moderate to heavy rain across parts
of the Southern Plains and the Lower Mississippi Valley through Saturday
morning. Therefore, the WPC has issued a Marginal Risk (level 1/4) of
excessive rainfall over parts of the Lower Mississippi Valley and the
adjacent Southern Plains through Saturday morning. The associated heavy
rain will create mainly localized areas of flash flooding, with urban
areas, roads, small streams, and low-lying areas being the most vulnerable.
On Saturday, showers and severe thunderstorms will redevelop over the
Southern Plains and the Lower Mississippi Valley. Therefore, the SPC has
issued a Slight Risk (level 2/5) of severe thunderstorms over parts of the
Southern Plains and adjacent Lower Mississippi Valley through Sunday
morning. The hazards associated with these thunderstorms are frequent
lightning, severe thunderstorm wind gusts, hail, and a few tornadoes.
Moreover, on Sunday, rain will develop along the East Coast, along with
showers and thunderstorms over the Gulf Coast that will linger over
southern Texas on Sunday evening.
Meanwhile, an upper-level trough over the Northern Rockies on Friday will
persist through Sunday. The system will produce late-season light
snowfall over the higher elevations of the Northern Rockies, the Northern
Intermountain Region, and the Sierra Nevada Mountains Friday night into
Saturday, and over the Great Basin and Central Rockies Saturday into
Sunday. An approaching cold front over the Northeast Pacific on late
Saturday morning will produce rain over the Northwest on late Saturday and
the Northwest and Northern California on Sunday.
