Replied to ‘Unhappy’ minister to curtail school principals’ freedom (The Sydney Morning Herald)

Ms Mitchell said every dollar should be spent on supporting teaching and learning, and “where that is not happening, it needs to change”. She is yet to release details of her proposed reforms.

I find the reference to ‘learning and teaching’ interesting. As someone who supports schools with ‘eLearn’ and various aspects of administration, the ROI on the time spent is not always clear. Although the work of timetables and attendance is intended to support ‘learning and teaching’ by creating a safe environment and providing systems of data to build upon, it does not seem as clear as a mathematics intervention program. Support in this area can then be unclear as to where it sits.

I might have misread the situation, which is referring to Gonski money, but I am just intrigued about what is not said when we assume so much of what makes learning and teaching even possible.

Replied to The NSW Curriculum โ€“ Less isย Best. by gregmiller68 (Learn and Lead)

Who knows what will come of the NSW Curriculum Review? I trust that Professor Geoff Masters and his team will declutter the curriculum by taking a โ€˜Less is Bestโ€™ approach.

It will be interesting Greg what comes of the review. When you say ‘less is best’ I am reminded of New Zealand, my only concern though is whose ‘less’ is best? If this simply results in a ‘back to basics’, then I will be concerned.
