Description

A visit to the 750mm gauge line from Cranzahl to Kurort Oberwiestenthal in May 1995. Planned around a 3 minute turnaround at the end of the branch, as a result a different loco each way was use. Seen here on the return leg, 099 749-4 on train 6926, 19:17 Kurort Oberwiesenthal to Cranzahl. Date taken 14 May 1995. (Number 099 749-4 = 99 1785-7 = 99 785)

The 17.4km line was opened in 1897, known as the Fichtelbergbahn and was an important freight and passenger line. Owned by German Railways under the various disguises until 1998 when it was taken over as a private operaion. Current owner is Sächsische Dampfeisenbahngesellschaft mbH (SDG)
