(Mathieu XXVII, 3, abrégé.) 2. Le codex purpureus, évangéliaire grec du VIe siècle, originaire du moyen orient, fut apporté à Rossano, probablement par un moine en fuite, lors des invasions arabes des IX-Xe s. Resté caché pendant des siècles dans le Trésor de la cathédrale, il ne fut exhumé qu’au début du XIXe siècle. Il faut attendre les études de deux érudits allemands, O. Von Gebhart et A. Harnack, pour que le manuscrit, en parchemin teinté de pourpre, acquière une célébrité mondiale. Le manuscrit se compose de 188 folios contenant le texte grec des évangiles de Matthieu et de Marc. Les deux autres sont perdus. Il comporte 14 pages enluminées. |
