Summary
[edit]DescriptionPath of Vega at winter solstice.png |
English: The star Vega (the "swooping eagle" in Arabic) in the constellation Lyra, is seen to swoop down and kiss the horizon at true North near midnight on the winter solstice. Its position at ten minute intervals is shown, from when it is first visible at dusk, till it disappears at dawn. The arc is at an angle because Vega is at 18h 36' right ascension, not perfectly at 18h. The arc is level on Dec 31, and Vega kisses the horizon when people kiss as part of the New Year's Eve tradition. |
