Changing template content on Wikidata, obscure text

[edit]

The paragraph "Changing template content on Wikidata" starts with incomprehensible text. {{Edit request}} After trying to read, i get the impression that the intended message was something like this ː

" If this 'Creator template' starts with a block with the Wikidata logo [], then this creator template is connected to the corresponding Wikidata-item and the information displayed in this template is taken from Wikidata. If you think that it is necessary to change the information, you can click the logo in the template above and modify it from there. See below for the table of which Wikidata properties are used by Module:Creator to construct the infobox. " Paulbe (talk) 00:43, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds less accurate to me. The current text means that it’s possible to override the Wikidata information on Commons – see, for instance, the customized work location on Creator:Paul Cézanne. This is missing from your suggested rewrite. (I’ve slightly adjusted the text now, does that help?) Lucas Werkmeister (talk) 15:53, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Documentation appears where the template is included

[edit]

However in the template code the documentation template is put between <noinclude></noinclude> it appears where the template is included as I noticed looking at Creator:Stefan Zweig --Agloforto (talk) 23:22, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This is intended behavior. This template {{Creator}} uses Module:Creator. That module outputs the contents of Template:Creator/documentation (which is the documentation on how to configure Creator entries in Creator namespace) and potentially some diagnostic error messages about the contents or wikidata issues, but only when {{Creator}} is used in Creator namespace or in demo mode (such as the template page itself). The documentation from Template:Creator/doc (which is the documentation for the template) is only shown when the template is not included (i.e. at Template:Creator, not in Creator namespace). —RP88 (talk) 23:44, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

literally HTML shown in MediaViewer in mobile

[edit]

@Jarekt, I am not sure if you are the right person to ping. @MenkinAlRire pointed me to a weird presentation of an image viewed in MediaViewer with mobile: https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ravensburger_Schutzmantelmadonna.jpg#/media/File:Ravensburger_Schutzmantelmadonna.jpg shows literally HTML. The presentation on desktop is OK: File:Ravensburger Schutzmantelmadonna.jpg#/media/File:Ravensburger Schutzmantelmadonna.jpg

For a test I have removed the Creator template and then the presenation looked OK. Any idea? Raymond (talk) 11:52, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Raymond, I really do not know much about MediaViewer, but I did some experiments:
I think the issue is that MediaViewer can not handle {{Creator}} template and photographer info in a single field. I removed photographer info and the MediaViewer was fine. We can easily fix this file by using {{Art photo}} or some other solution, but I think we should keep it for time being and file a ticket so MediaViewer team can fix it, sonce there must be many more files like this. --Jarekt (talk) 13:42, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much, @Jarekt, for analyse and creating the Phab Task. Much appreciated Raymond (talk) 14:15, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

IDs

[edit]

{{Edit request}}

  1. move ISNI before VIAF: it is not a contributor to VIAF, ISNI not included in VIAF exist
  2. delete WorldCat: it is deprecated in Wikidata

Andres Ollino (talk) 12:32, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This is not something that can be changed on this page. It appears to depend on Module:Authority_control. Please use Module_talk:Authority_control. Also, I'm not really convinced by any of the request. Not sure if ISNI is more useful than VIAF. As for information no longer in Wikidata, they will stop appearing. Placement on categories in addition to Wikidata infobox (see VP discussion)

[edit]

Please see Commons:Village pump/Archive/2024/08#Creator template.

Add official website

[edit]

I would really like it if "official website" was imported if the Wikidata item of a creator is linked. Vera (talk) 15:54, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
