Before you can start using GitHub Copilot Individual, you will need to set up a free trial or subscription.
Note
- If you are a member of an organization or enterprise that has a subscription to GitHub Copilot, you can request access to Copilot by going to https://github.com/settings/copilot and requesting access under "Get Copilot from an organization." If you have a managed user account account instead of a personal account, you cannot get a GitHub Copilot Individual subscription.
- If you are a verified student, teacher, or maintainer of a popular open source project, GitHub Copilot is free to use. See "Getting free access to Copilot as a student, teacher, or maintainer."
-
In the upper-right corner of any page, click your profile photo, then click Your Copilot.
-
On the GitHub Copilot settings page, click Start free trial. If you are not eligible for a free trial because you have already used the free trial or because you were part of the technical preview, you will be prompted to subscribe to Copilot instead.
-
Choose whether you want to pay monthly or yearly, and click Get access to GitHub Copilot.
If your personal account meets the criteria for a free GitHub Copilot subscription instead of a trial or paid subscription, you will automatically be taken to step 5.
-
Follow the steps to enter and confirm your payment details, then click Submit.
-
Select your preferences, then click Save and complete setup.
The Suggestions matching public code preference controls whether Copilot will provide code completion suggestions that match publicly available code.
For details about the preferences, see "Managing Copilot policies as an individual subscriber." You can change the preferences at any time.
