DescriptionLIL-W with electron-positron converter.jpg
English: LIL W, the second part of the LEP Injector Linac (LIL) is depicted.
The following parts are visible, from right to left (in the direction of the beam): a steering dipole; the arm, (at 45 degrees) of a wire scanner which measures beam size; the conversion target, housed in the small tank with a window, where positrons are produced; immediately afterwards, invisible inside the vacuum chamber, is a pulsed solenoid to focus the emerging positrons; finally, a large solenoid further focuses the positrons.
