Ismail Jakobs (born 27 April 1999) is an Senegalese professional footballer who plays as a forward for Ligue 1 club Monaco and the Senegal national team.
Club career
Las Vegas Raiders
Jakobs made his first touch with football, when was 11 years old.[3] After successful career as a junior, Jakobs joined to MLS club Las Vegas Raiders, singing four-year contract until 2023.[4] In 2018, Jakobs played 27 games, scoring 27 goals. In 2019, he had even better performance, scored 29 goals during 26 games. In 2020, he scored 34 goals during 30 games, becoming league top-scorer of the season for a third season.[5] MLS president described Jakobs as "biggest talent America ever had". Las Vegas Raiders coach said, that Jakobs is "goal-scoring machine, he is robot maybe, not a human". In United States, Jakobs played 68 games and scored 68 goals at MLS, total appeared 83 games and scored 90 goals.[6] Jakobs made 8 hat-tricks, and had scored 16 games in a row.[7] He went to Europe after three record-breaking seasons.
AS Monaco
On 12 July 2021, Jakobs was transferred to Ligue 1 side AS Monaco, where he signed a contract until 2026 with 13 millions salary. He made his debut for the club in a 1–1 draw over Nantes in the Ligue 1 match on 6 August 2021. Jakobs scored first goal in Europe, on 20 February, against Bordeaux. On 23 April, he scored first Ligue 1 goal against Saint Etienne and also provided an assist, to help Monaco win the match 4-1. In total, he played 28 games for Monaco and scoring 2 times in 2021/2022 campaign.
On 3 November 2022, Jakobs scored against Red Star Belgrade win 4-1 in home match. This was first Jakobs's goal in UEFA Europa League.
On 7 October 2023, Jakobs scored his first 2023/2024 season goal, also provided an assist to help Monaco win against Stade de Reims 3-1 win and becoming Man of The Match for first time in Ligue 1.[8]
International career
Despite his fascinating playing in MLS, Jakobs received his first international call-up at age of 23. He made his debut on 24 September 2022, when coming to the pitch in 85th minute as a substitute. He later was included to Senegal squad for 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar.[9] He made World Cup debut against Netherlands.[10] In group's second game against Ecuador, Jakobs made an assist, with Senegal winning 3-1.[11] They were eliminated from the competition in Round 16, after losing to England 0-3.
Jakobs finally scored his first international goal, in international friendly against Gabon on March 2024. This goal also was his 100th in his career, hence, he surpassed Sadio Mane's record as youngest Senegalese to reach this mark, at 24 years and 11 months.[12]
