Kreis Goldingen (Kuldīgas apriņķis, Гольдингенский уезд) was one of the ten subdivisions of the Courland Governorate of the Russian Empire. Its capital was Kuldīga (Goldingen). Kreis Goldingen was situated in the western part of the governorate (in present-day southwestern Latvia).
Demographics
At the time of the Russian Empire Census of 1897, Kreis Goldingen had a population of 66,335. Of these, 86.6% spoke Latvian, 8.5% German, 4.0% Yiddish, 0.3% Lithuanian, 0.3% Romani, 0.2% Russian and 0.1% Polish as their native language.[1]
