| Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) | The image shall serve as primary means of visual identification, at the top of the article in question. It is a unique historic image of considerable significance, as it shows the first relatively successful and lasting takeover of a major town in Somalia (namely Qandala) by an Islamic State-affiliated group, the Islamic State in Somalia. This has been widely considered to be a turning point in regard to ISIL's significance in Somalia (before the fall of Qandala it was considered to be a minor threat). Thus, this image shows a historic moment, especially if it is also considered that the building where the fighter shown here hoists the Black Standard was the same where the Somali folk hero Ali Fahiye Gedi was imprisoned in 1914. |
