My Hydra never updates itself. I always have to come here and download the latest version.

Hydra looks for updates every time you open it
It triggers a SO notification telling about the update
If you are using the Windows setup version as well, it should also donwload the update automatically, so all you have to do is restart Hydra

This behavior is not happening to you?
I mean, if you install 3.1.4 it should tell you that there is an update available after you open it
