Currently we don't handle citation reference nodes.
We need to figure out how to implement.

Is it just the reference nodes or also the citations themselves?

Citations are basically the same as footnotes syntactically in RST except they have non-numeric references (see https://docutils.sourceforge.io/docs/ref/rst/restructuredtext.html#citations). So I would suggest reusing the code for them. It seems footnotes aren't really supported yet either?

Good point, them we should support footnote and citation at the same time.
