These are the topics for week 3:
This week we are looking at finalising our SQL knowledge with even more advanced topics. Let's first look at Normalization which is a technique you should always be using when designing your databases!
Next we are going to look at Transactions which are ways to ensure your data stays clean. Sometimes certain updates need to either all happen or none happen and transactions allow you to do that.
Lastly for SQL, we will look into the topic of SQL injection which you as a backend engineer should be wary about. Not handling this could make it possible for others to delete your whole database, which I hope we don't have to tell you is a bad thing!
Then it is time to start with the basics of NoSQL, which is an extremely broad topic as it pretty much means all other ways except for the SQL way. Have a look at the basics of NoSQL here.
Most of NoSQL is out of the scope of our curriculum as storing data in specific ways like graphs is generally only used for very specific use cases. We will be looking at the documented-oriented way of storing data as that is the most common thing you will see in the wild. In that field we will be using MongoDB as our implementation, but be sure that you know that MongoDB is an implementation of a document-oriented database and not the only one. Kind of like MySQL is an implementation of an SQL database. Read up on document-oriented databases here and then have a look at how to do the basic CRUD operations with MongoDB here so that we can get our feet wet.
