I just got a random popup "You reached your monthly completion limit" when I opened up my IDE (WebStorm). Also happens on RustRover, so presumably all IntelliJ IDEs.

I am using Copilot Pro. Everything works fine, but this seems to be a bug.

@AaronDewes @kategengler We’ve identified an issue affecting complimentary access to GitHub Copilot Pro for students, teachers and maintainers. We’re actively working on a fix. You might have seen we introduced a new free tier of GitHub Copilot, but that will not affect your access to Copilot Pro

How do I disable this? I managed to remove the Home Screen Copilot prompt bar thankfully but I can’t remove the Copilot Free add-on from my GH settings anywhere.

Me too. I got an email with a subject of "You have free access to GitHub Copilot" that said in the body "Access to GitHub Copilot is now included with your GitHub account."

The green "Start using Copilot" button had a link to sendgrid.net, with a long ecoded string that didn't visibly contain my GH username. Gmail says the email was signed by "github.com" so I believe it's legit. But when I get to "https://github.com/github-copilot/signup" it says "Oops, something went wrong
Copilot is unavailable to you at this time." with an error message of "Trilogy::ProtocolError: 1062: Duplicate entry 'xxxxxx' for key 'copilot_limited_users.index_copilot_limited_users_on_user_id' (trilogy_query_recv)".

(I redacted the key number, in case that's sensitive.)

I also guess that maybe accounts that received the email were already enrolled so I installed the Github Copilot VSCode extension and clicked the "Start Free Trial" button displayed initially in the extension and was taken to the same error message the email took me to....

I'm receiving the error as well, however I'm not a student, teacher or maintainer...

Mirroring the sentiments others have expressed here:
I am not interested in using AI, I did not ask for this, and if possible I would prefer my account did not have access to Copilot. I don't know who wants this.

I didn't even ask or consent to the addition to Copilot to my account. They could have at least gave me a pop up that says "Hey, GitHub Copilot is available for your account. Would you like to enable it?" rather than force it down everyone's throat.

GitHub, please don't force features and instead gain written consent to enable them.

Wow, you automatically enabled the plagiarizing machine without user consent, and default-enabled the data-scraping mechanism which is illegal under EU DSGVO law. And there is no option to opt-out or disable Copilot again. GitHub enshittification is going great!

Just another example of why the internet is rapidly dying. Hell, some people already consider it as dead. The moment advertisers and companies saw they can profit off the World Wide Web, the internet died as a whole. And with late stage capitalism in full swing, they are milking the very last drops of profit from the Internet before it finally crumbles.

You are on the right path Microsoft. But you guys should increase the current limits, they are like a joke now. Actually you should make the basic tier unlimited Copilot completely free for Visual Studio. Why would I use this when I have everything free in Amazon Q ?
