Problem: When I find a popular package that has been deprecated, finding an alternative is difficult.
Solution: Like the "keywords" property, there could be a "peers/similar/competitors" property that is listed by package name. This could be displayed on npmjs.com on the right of a package page. It would aid in new package discovery (perhaps under some conditions e.g. certain number of downloads). While leaders in their space may not be motivated to populate this data, certainly smaller players would be.
Outcome: Hopefully greater competition and a healthier ecosystem.
EnhancementAn idea, feature request, or improvement to a GitHub featurenpmTagging to track for future npm category
