Even if you joined GitHub after a certain date, the activity chart sometimes shows older years by default. Currently, there’s no built-in way to hide or remove those empty year tabs. It’s just how GitHub’s profile interface is designed—essentially displaying a full range of years around your join date. If it bothers you, you could submit a feature request asking GitHub to hide empty years for a cleaner timeline. |

GitHub’s activity view sometimes behaves differently from one account to another, especially if there’s any older data (even without visible contributions). In your case, you created the account in 2022, and GitHub only shows the relevant years. For someone else, GitHub might display additional years—sometimes due to how the account was originally set up or if there was any older metadata associated with it (even if no commits were made). Essentially, it’s an inconsistency in how GitHub populates those date ranges, not something the user has direct control over. |

I Joined GitHub on November 20, 2016 and don’t have any repositories with contributions from 2009 to 2015, but the year tabs appear.
