Last month used 80% during the whole month, now 98% in only 3 days.

These changes are completely illegal that's not the plan i purchased for one year, it's a unilateral change in the conditions of the contract, the credit usage as well as the credits charged per model can't just change 6x like that when the plan was for a whole year in those conditions. I don't care about the legalese BS excuses they try to gas-light us, it's just deceitful marketing and scamming

reminds me of the Silk Road / Empire market scams of getting known as reliable before doing a massive rugpull and running as it blows up. Just found copilot github and its nice to parse through old legacy projects, but $20 of tokens seem to last 2 coding sessions and I can't see it being worth it

Haha, I was also considering buying a yearly subscription at the time. My colleague told me, "It's the present, who knows what will happen next month? AI changes so fast, nobody knows." So, I bought a monthly subscription.

Now, it turns out he was right. We've all switched to other AI software now. Since June 3rd, I haven't used Copilot at all.

See if you can get a refund. Also, I hope you can find better software.

I am also switching to antigravity. I literally had a single prompt today cost me 15% of my monthly quota on the $100 a month plan for what would have taken 2% on the $40 a month plan. That's 25 times the price. I don't even know how anyone gets work done anymore with this. I love GitHub as a platform, but I hope they realize this as their biggest pricing mistake ever and fixes this mess.

I can understand why this feels frustrating, especially if your usage patterns haven't changed but your credit consumption has increased significantly after the recent billing updates.

One thing that might help the GitHub team investigate is sharing:

• Which Copilot plan you're using.
• Which models you're primarily using.
• Whether your workflow changed recently (Agent mode, code review, chat frequency, etc.).
• Whether the increase is due to model pricing changes or an unexpected spike in usage.

More transparency around credit consumption, historical comparisons, and per-feature usage would probably help users better understand where credits are being spent.

Hopefully the team can provide additional clarification on the recent changes and whether there are ways to optimize usage under the new model.

I raised two tickets about a similar issue. I pay for my plan the 14 dollars a month on the 29th each month. Used about 107 minutes of the agent in 5 days. Then I get a note my Copilot minutes are almost at max which limit is 1500 minutes. I am sitting here with 2900 minutes of agents I can't use although I literally just paid for the month.

It is my theory they haven't reset the Copilot minutes this billing cycle.

However, I didn't get a reply in my tickets. Not a good customer service.

I work for business that has 800,000 employees globally we have multiple contracts with Microsoft, but now after seeing how my own personal sub is eaten away within 6 days and I have to wait to July now i'm not recommending github copilot for our company.

Im recommending this for all my developer friends in different companies and contractors also. Quite a few have already moaned about it and quit their subscriptions moved to Claude code and others.

Github Copilot revenue will drop now as nobody will buy into this model. Cant see this lasting.

Let me list the problems I am seeing from my side.

1. The token/rate limit is burning x10 times.
2. Ask copilot to fixes 1 issue, it breaks existing unrelated feature.
3. Ask copilot to create a screen with 12 fields, it will add two more on its own.
4. Discuss backend API integration in details for 3 components, ask to implement, it will implement 1 or 2, leave the 3rd untouched.
5. Same issue while building tests, it will completely skip multiple routes and report coverage as 100%
6. Give it a MCP server for HTTP API Testing, slight topic change, then ask to test another endpoint, it starts CURLing
7. Ask Copilot to list all files in a directory, it will start writing a Python script to achieve that

TBH, this was NOT AN issue before 1st June! I am mainly using Claude Sonnet in Github Copilot on a Pro plan (and before anyone starts pointing fingers, my instructions are curated over years, I do not use agents unless necessary, my prompts are concise, I discuss and create notes in detail before coding).

On the other hand, I have a Claude Pro account as well. And, in Claude CLI or VS Code extension for Claude, its a breeze to work with! Very minimal hallucinations or drifts. Comes back with 98% of work completed as expected, very few minor glitches. I was thinking of going Pro+ on Github but I think, I will fall back to Free or $4 and go Claude Pro 5x.

sonnet 5 in claude code eats tokens even worse. Our company had to default back to 4.6. I think where ever you go you will find the cost increase as stated above. They need to start actually making money soon rather than sucking people on to their platforms.

+1, I have both GitHub Copilot Pro and Claude Pro plans. Before the D Day (1st June), I was burning GH CP monthly limits in about 2 weeks or so (heavy usage), now I think its under 2-3 days. Claude on the other hand, keeps on churning, mind the 5 hour window and I can comfortably work for at least 8 hours a day. I used to switch between GH CP and Claude when I hit or come close to hitting limits and was thinking of switching to GH Pro+ but now I think I am switching to GH $4 plan and Claude Pro 5x ($100).

My favorite for code would be Google Gemini, as it is extremely fast and produces code usually without flaws.

I agree! They keep changing the subscription tiers and billing rules one after another without warning.

At first, I was on the $100 annual plan. In April, I found that the Claude Opus 4.6 model had been removed from that plan. Then they moved that model into a higher-tier plan, Pro+. I had no choice but to pay extra to upgrade to Pro+. But after that, they changed the billing rules again. This is shameless.

I’ve decided to stop using it too. I paid more money, only to have the usage run out in just a few days.

I also requested a restore of my tokens. Copilot wasted $55 of tokens in one day and didn't produce a single line of code. Just could waste my entire Saturday. When the model is the first to admit that couldn't produce anything the minimum was for Github to give back the tokens. Its amazing that the model can't give feedback to Github. Probably they want to make sure that they can't receive the feedback from the model itself.

My bad experience with Copilot:

I had github copilot before they introduced the new ai credits and removed half the models from the pro plan. then here's what happened:

I had to wait MONTHS for them to re-open signups, and finally, in either may or june, they re-opened them. only to find.... TERRIBLE usage limits, and TERRIBLE models. So now, i use GPT 5.3 Codex on Low, and my ChatGPT Free account on light coding tasks so i dont exhaust my usage limits.

I would completely agree with those in this post saying Github Copilot is a complete scam. Github Copilot support will indicate in these threads, that it is not a scam, it is billing changes. However, they also do not answer support tickets, returning the user to the conclusion they are being scammed. I already cancelled my github copilot previously after it became expensive and unusable, opus and sonnet models became stupid, and the models constantly say things like ...

• We ran out of context, hit continue (over and over but it never finishes)
• You are out of tokens or have exceeded your usage (or something? but I had % of consumption left)
• (Other errors preventing you from working)

It goes beyond a few pricing changes, the actual usability has degraded completely and it is not a useful platform anymore, and those who sell it have proven themselves untrustworthy, they will stop you from using it randomly, and then allow you to resume use at an unfair price + with more glitches. I had a Copilot Pro Plus plan at $40 a month, it seemed really good. Copilot came out with the infamous changes, I had no option but to move everything to Codex, and it's far better, it doesn't have all those glitches above, and the consumption still makes sense, I can get my work done without getting stopped by token counting systems. I put in about 6 tickets which went unanswered for about a month, and cancelled my Github Copilot.

I don't think they want us as customers, it seems very clear they want to close Github Copilot, and this is their attempt to destroy it I guess. Or maybe they are smart business people and this is how to make a profit, either way, I'm jumping ship.

I'm going to add my voice here too. I've been instrumental in my large company in putting together complex AI pipelines to generate code etc. It was working 'ok' for awhile but with the latest updates and price hikes I don't know how we're going to even keep using GitHub copilot and we're actively looking into alternatives because it's becoming completely unusable:

• The vscode window inexplicably is freezing on a regular basis.
• The AI is sometimes just completely unresponsive (no matter what model I use). I send it a request and the response never happens. Soemteims if I wait like a half hour it'll finally respond with something (I'm talking like just saying 'hello'... no response).
• Token usage is unbearably expensive. We're trying to figure out how to reduce token usage but then we end up hitting a wall with bad code because we're trying to not load skills or have fewer instructions and it turns out that stuff helps a LOT to get good code quality and Copilot is making it impossible.

At some point it's going to force companies to look more seriously at local models, buy their own equipment and cancel their massive subscriptions to copilot and copilot is going to lose so much money.

Last month I had a situation where Copilot was eating out money from my account doing absolutely noting: no agent enabled, no activities in IDE.
Due to changes in billing I hit $150 in added budget (being constantly interrupted in the middle left with unfinished tasks - which in my opinion should be deducted from the account as unfinished work = zero work), I bumped budget with another $10 and left my computer for like 10-20 minutes. Then I checked the budget again and it showed $150.22, then 153.46, 153.89, 154.10...
I locked up the budget at $150 to avoid stealing my money and filed request for explanation according to:
According to GitHub Terms of Service section L: "You (I) are responsible for any fees associated with your use of GitHub. We (you/GitHub) are responsible for communicating those fees to you clearly and accurately, and letting you know well in advance if those prices change."
Especially subsection L.3 - Payment Based on Usage states the following "you pay for those Service features based on your actual usage".
Saying I won't pay the bill until explained how it was calculated in details.

It is been more then two weeks with no answer.

Upon lack of answer I will be filing scam incident report to Internet Crime Complaint Center (I3C) reporting cyber-enabled crime of theft by GitHub Inc.

I know that $4.10 it is not much but it seems to me that GitHub clever way to 'earn' money making a fraud....

I was somewhat happy with GitHub Copilot before the limit changes. I tried the Pro subscription after the update, but I hit the limits much faster, and honestly I don’t like the way it works anymore.

Some time ago I switched to using Codex CLI or pi.dev CLI with my ChatGPT subscription, and that workflow works much better for me. It feels more versatile, especially when working across .NET and frontend projects outside a pure .NET environment.

The Codex usage model with 5-hour and weekly limits is also much easier to manage in practice.

I’ve also been testing Claude CLI over the last few weeks, and that has been working really well too.

On Jun 16 I requested explanation on why GitHub is stealing money from my account. I added money to my account, went away from my computer, no agent was running, nothing was happening, and when I checked account again there were $4.10 charged for nothing. For me it is fraud and theft unless it is explained.

I sent information via ticket:
"This is official claim of faulty operation of your product and calculating improper charges.
Until you prove that this bill is connected with actual work performed by your product, I refuse to pay it."
Demanding explanation "on why charges were added to my account while no work by GitHub Copilot was performed" and "on how the total price was calculated and proof that it was related to actual work, and not added in idle state".

On Jun 22 I received information that "Your ticket has been forwarded to our Product team." and the ticket was archived....
On the very same day I opened follow up ticket in the area of 'Copilot billing, signup, or activation issue' describing the issue once again referring to:
GitHub Terms of Service section L: "You (I) are responsible for any fees associated with your use of GitHub. We (you/GitHub) are responsible for communicating those fees to you clearly and accurately, and letting you know well in advance if those prices change."
Especially subsection L.3 - Payment Based on Usage states the following "you pay for those Service features based on your actual usage".

Instead of explanation to the ticket, I received emails that 'There is a problem billing my account' which is absolutely hilarious as I am not going to pay a dime until GitHub explains themselves according to Terms of Service section L.

Now the funniest thing about the case: they closed/archived the second ticket four days ago without single word of explanation....

Well for me it seems GitHub is admitting that they cannot provide explanation, it is chicken/clown like behavior, and for me it looks like GitHub is admitting they are a fraud in the area of Copilot charges calculation.

I opened yet another follow up ticket informing that upon lack of answer I will be filing scam incident report to US Internet Crime Complaint Center (I3C) reporting reporting cyber-enabled crime of theft.

I am wondering maybe this is a case for collective lawsuit - GitHub changed their pricing in the way that violates Terms of Service section L and L.3. They are unable to provide evidence that "pay (..is..) based on your actual usage", there are users that are experiencing 'magical vaporization' of service budgets even when service is not used...

I used to be subscribed to Copilot Pro, and it used to have unmetered models. I started using it again 3 days ago with the free plan and my tokens naturally ran out, today I subscribed. I literally asked it 1 question in VS Code, and saw $0.10 used, 1 question. Not even about code.

Now I know I'm about to regret subscribing. I'll just use my sub until it runs out and probably will just continue using free gemini... I was expecting to have the same thing I had time ago, free models, but since they don't show the rates when you're subscribing and simply hide all that info that you literally have to be a detective to find, yeah, not happy. And that's not a good look for a returning customer, imagine new customers all your sales will drop after the first month if this continues.
