Organization gists

This was suggested back in 2010, and stated as planned, and then never done. Pleaaaaseeee support gists for organizations on GitHub.

Update 1: It's March 8th, 2023, and it has now been 13 years since that support question. Organization gists have been asked about again and again and again. This discussion post has 249 upvotes and 103 participants. That's pretty big. I'm not alone: people want this. Please support gists for organizations on GitHub.

Not sure if giving an answer bumps the discussion up, but I will attempt to do so because I still need this. We have the ability to follow organizations now, adding gists wouldn't hurt :]

@liligalante Thank you! I have two use cases in mind:

• I use a service that uses gists as a form of verifying your identity. A while ago, I attempted to use this service with my GitHub organization. Verifying that it was actually that GitHub organization was impossible unless I deleted the organization, waited 30 days, made a new user account, made the gist, and then converted the user to an organization. It's possible, but definitely not helpful.
• General note taking. In the same organization, we currently use a repository called other to write down ideas, policies, etc. Making these into gists would make discussion on the ideas / policies a lot easier.

👍 to all of the above. This feature would be extremely useful. As an organisation we want to publish code snippets on public blogs and share them publicly, and we think Github Gists would be a great way to do this.

People subscribe to the thread to be notified when it's implemented though. It feels bit disingenous to just point at the unsubsribe button no? The ones leaving +1 should just use the upvote button and then click the subscribe button to be notified on updates, as intended. There's no need to spam +1 at all

Especially private gists for organizations would be very much needed. This in particular useful for simple CI/CD or quick snippets sharing from a trusted source.
