Series in Electromagnetics and Metamaterials

Series Editor: Professor Baidyanathl Nath (B. N.) Basu

About the Series

The Series on Electromagnetics and Metamaterials, published by IOP, is an innovative and authoritative source of information on a fundamental science that has been enabling a multitude of transformative technologies for two centuries and more. The electromagnetic spectrum extends from millihertz waves to microwaves to terahertz radiation to ultraviolet light and even soft x-rays. In each spectral regime, different classes of materials have different kinds of electromagnetic response characteristics. Much has been discovered and much has been technologically exploited, but even more remains to be discovered and even more remains to be put to use for diverse applications.

Electromagnetics is an ever more vibrant arena of techno-scientific research. This is amply exemplified by the huge current interest in metamaterials. By virtue of carefully designed and engineered morphology, metamaterials exhibit response characteristics that are either completely absent or muted in their constituent materials.

Each book in the Series offers an extended essay on a foundational topic; an emerging topic; a currently hot topic; and/or a tool for metrology, design, and application. Ranging from 60 to 120 pages, books are written by internationally renowned experts who have been charged with making the content not only authoritative, but also easy to understand, thereby offering more synthesis and depth than a typical review article in a journal.

Illustrated in full color for both ebook and printed copies, these short books are easily searchable in the ebook format. The series is thus more modular and dynamic than traditional handbooks and more coherent than contributed volumes.
