A better tomorrow (1986)

John Woo can make one film but oh my is it a good one! Apparently this film inspired pulp fiction; i can’t make a judgement on that having not watched pulp fiction, but it feels like a film that would influence other films.

The plot is a classic tale of two brothers, one a super cool criminal, and the other a nerdy police man, living their separate lives until it gets personal and they have to ultimately put aside their differences to make everything right. In the meantime, there are lots of classic kung fu fights, except that actually they have guns.

It’s simple, but John Woo cares about the details. The film is just over ninety minutes, also know as the perfect length. There is no drag. The fight sequences are very meticulous and dance-like.

If you like kung fu and guns, there’s basically nothing not to like here.
