BuPla unterstützt den Benutzer bei der Analyse seiner finanziellen Lage und bildet die Basis für eine ehrliche Budget-Analyse. Der Benutzer kann aus verschiedenen Datenquellen elektronische Zahlungsinformationen importieren. Dazu wurde ein Plug-In System erstellt, welches die Anbindung beliebiger Quellsysteme ermöglicht. Es wurden Plug-Ins für den Import von Cumulus und Internetbanking Daten umgesetzt. Den Kern des Budgetplaners bildet eine selbstlernende Zuweisung der Zahlungen zu Budgetposten. Mittels Bayesianischer Klassifikatoren werden die Zahlungen automatisiert an passende Budgetposten zugewiesen. Fehlende Belege können auf einfache Weise manuell ergänzt und so Lücken in der Budgeterfassung geschlossen werden. So kann in nur wenigen Minuten eine umfangreiche Budgetanalyse vorgenommen werden.
