#389 callbacks in citation don't work

When I use a callback in citation, for example
citation = sub { "This tracks shows CDS reading frames."; }
instead of
citation = This track shows CDS reading frames.
When hovering over the "[?]" links under the "Select Tracks" tab, the popup displays the "CDS: CODE(0x96090b0)". I'm using GBrowse v2.39 now. The citation callback used to work in early version of GBrowse. Many of our tracks share the same citation, it's really helpful if the citation callback could work.
This is the case since at least 2.13 :
