I'm using 0.9.5 and it streams well, but for some reason I can't fathom the stream cuts out intermittenlty at random moments. The cutouts last mere seconds. I have also been using Mixxx to stream and there are no such cutouts when streaming with that application. I had suspected that it may be that I am running IDJC on a mchine that I also use to host my OpenSimulator region servers, but even reducing the number of those running to one (with total system RAM usage at around 3GB of a total of 8GB available) and with a pretty low CPU loading (around 30% max on all four cores) does nothing to improve the issue. I have restarted the Shoutcast service on the external host web interface, all to no avail as the issue remains. Apart from when it cuts out, IDJC performs well and audio output is excellent. Hopefully someone can point me towards possible reasons for why I'm experiencing this issue, and more importantly, towards a solution.
Network congestion springs to mind as the most likely but it could be a timing issue. Cheap sound cards are not the best timing sources and IDJC syncs to the soundcard via JACK and to the stream by libshout(-idjc) so if the soundcard clock is running too fast it will overstuff the buffer resulting in dropped audio. What are your troubleshooting settings like? Is it set to reconnect? Overstuffing the buffer would in that case cause a server reconnection.
Thank you for your prompt response. Troubleshooting was set to
reconnect, and turning that off resulted in a slight improvement, but
still some drop-out. I also tried shutting down all the OpenSimulator
servers and just running IDJC and the stream ran perfectly with no
drop-outs, so it would seem to be a network related issue. I run Mixxx
on a different machine, which only runs that application, nothing else,
and that also plays perfectly - I tried to install JDJC on that machine
but for some reason it refuses to start - I suspect conflicts with
Mixxx, so I shall tomorrow reinstall IDJC on a clean Ubuntu MATE install
and see I get on with that - I strongly suspect it will solve my issue.
