During concatenating the records of one file into an existing file (ncrcat --rec_apn ...) I noticed that the output file has the following 'history_of_appended_files' global attribute:

Global attribute 3: history_of_appended_files, size = 103 NC_CHAR, value = Mon Jul 06 16:58:11 2015: Appended file Mon Jul 06 16:58:11 2015 had no "98-linesout\011.nc" attribute

The appended file has the name '98-linesout\011.nc' and it did not have a 'history' attribute.

I am using NCO 4.5.0 under Windows.

Thank you for reporting this. It was a bad print format string. Not sure why this did not cause a compiler warning, but it's fixed now and will be in 4.5.1.
