Lemmy is a self-hosted social link aggregation and discussion platform. It is completely free and open, and not controlled by any company. This means that there is no advertising, tracking, or secret algorithms. Content is organized into communities, so it is easy to subscribe to topics that you are interested in, and ignore others. Voting is used to bring the most interesting items to the top.

Lemmy is and will always remain free, open source software, using the strong copyleft AGPL License.

Made using some of the fastest frameworks and tools, including Rust, Actix, Diesel, Inferno, and Typescript.

Each server can set its own moderation policy, to help foster a healthy environment where all can feel comfortable contributing.

With Lemmy, you can easily host your own server, and all these servers are federated (think email), and connected to the same universe, called the Fediverse.

Pleroma is a microblogging server software that can federate (= exchange messages with) other servers that support the same federation standards (OStatus and ActivityPub). What that means is that you can host a server for yourself or your friends and stay in control of your online identity, but still exchange messages with people on larger servers. Pleroma will federate with all servers that implement either OStatus or ActivityPub, like GNU Social, Friendica, Hubzilla and Mastodon.

Aether is private by default, so that you can choose to be fully private, or fully public yourself. Most people use pseudonyms, though you can use your real name, or company. Everyone watches the watchmen. Moderation is important for healthy communities, and Aether adds onto it some checks-and-balances. Doing so reverts all changes by that moderator for the user, and counts for one impeachment vote.
