Tumblr

Pros: You can have your blog up and running, and decent looking, well under an hour even without looking through the paid theme options. Tumblr lets you post anything from just pretty pictures to lengthy blog posts. Posts can be public, password protected, or entirely private, which makes it great to keep as a personal diary. Tags help organize your content and help you find other people's content.

Cons: Not really optimal for businesses and audience engagement compared to other platforms out there. If you're only posting images, Instagram would probably get more eyes on your photos. Wordpress offers far more customization than Tumblr if you want a more classic blog. If you're not using a premade theme, customizing your Tumblr blog can be a chore because it doesn't work the way you'd expect. There's a lot of garbage content on the site as well, and finding anything or standing out is an uphill battle.

Overall: Tumblr's got a lot of problems, but overall, I don't hate it. If you're looking to expand your audience online, this probably won't be a good platform for you. However, for personal use, it's fine with a lot of tag/user blocking and a nice looking theme. I like that the platform is very catchall. You can post photos, then long entries, then lots of gifs, etc. one right after another and it all feels right together rather than tacked on the way other platforms which originally focused on one type of media once they've added in other media options.
