"Custom domains will not work" Edited 2025-12-26
Pros: Price is competitive and the help articles are comprehensive. The system is simple to navigate. The process of adding an alias domain is straight forward and simple (similar to other providers).
Cons: Mailbox.org claims custom domains are supported. They require you to send/receive emails for custom domains using an alias. After successfully altering your DNS records and adding an alias within their system, you will NEVER be able to send or receive emails via that alias. So, while they allow you to add an alias, it will always be nonfunctional. They offer no way to send emails from that alias.
This feels very deceptive, as you must subscribe to their service to discover that you cannot send emails from your own custom domain (as it's not even offered on the free tier). I feel ripped off. There is no tech support or help available, but this does not appear to be a tech issue. This appears to be working as designed (e.g. it is not designed to work).Overall: Mailbox.org appears to be a deceptive company claiming to offer the use of custom domains to send/receive emails, but it does not. in order to send/receive emails via a custom domain, you will need to buy a separate email account for each custom domain, as their alias system does not allow you to send emails from custom domains. Very scammy.

"Solid privacy, security, and value." Edited 2024-02-21
Pros: Mailbox.org is a reliable, feature packed service that provides secure and private email with solid encryption, cloud storage, an office suite and video conferencing on a 100% eco-friendly platform with servers based in Germany.
Cons: Mailbox.org does not have a native mobile app although, from your phone's web browser, you can add mailbox.org to your Android or iPhone home screen for quick, app-like access. The user interface is functional though rather bland and navigating preferences and settings can be a bit of a challenge until you're familiar with it.
Overall: Mailbox.org offers a lot of value for the money as compared to other privacy centered services like Proton Mail, Mailfence and Tutamail. The Lite version is just $1/mo. when paid annually. Mailbox.org is definitely worth your consideration.
