Man killed in road accident on Kalka-Zirakpur highway in Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH: A 49-year-old man was killed after being hit by a motorcycle rider on the Kalka-Zirakpur Highway on Thursday.
Based on the statement of the victim’s brother, the Sector 5 police of Panchkula registered a case against the bike driver and arrested him. Later, the accused was released on bail from the police station.
Police said the victim was identified as Subhash Chandra, a resident of Hisar, Haryana.
In his statement, Dharmapal, the victim’s brother, stated that his elder brother Subhash Chandra, who was employed as a TA at the deputy director agriculture office in Sector 21, Panchkula, also came to Hisar with his wife for the Christmas holiday.
On December 25, 2024, Subhash and his wife left Hisar for Panchkula. Later that day, around 8.15 PM, Dharmapal received a call informing him that his brother Subhash and sister-in-law Kamlesh Devi were crossing the Kalka-Zirakpur Highway to reach their rented room in Sector 21, Panchkula, when a motorcyclist, driving recklessly, hit Subhash directly.
The collision caused Subhash to fall and hit his head on the road, rendering him unconscious.
Bystanders took him to the govt hospital in sector-6, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Dharmapal filed a complaint at the Sector 5 police station against the bike driver, Gaurav. After verifying the facts, police registered a case against Gaurav and arrested him under the relevant sections of BNS and started a probe.
