Mia Thornton is beginning her 2025 with a fresh start.
The 40-year-old Real Housewives of the Potomac star stated on December 31, 2024, that she had split from her boyfriend, Incognito, whom she had been dating for the past year.
Mia shared a New Year's Eve selfie with her ex-husband Gordon Thornton, sparking speculation that the two were no longer together. The former couple, who have children Jeremiah, 9, and Juliana, 7, separated in June 2023 after 11 years of marriage but have yet to finalise their divorce.
"New Year. "New Beginnings," Mia captioned a photo of them smiling. "Cheers to living life to the fullest #momanddad #nye2025."
Mia provided another glimpse into her intimate celebrations on Instagram, revealing that she and Gordon enjoyed brunch with their two children at a restaurant "in the mountains."
Fans immediately discovered that Mia and Incognito had unfollowed each other on social media. While neither Mia nor Incognito's representatives responded to PEOPLE's request for comment, the reality star did tell The Shade Room that they had split up.
"Inc is my best friend and perfect in so many ways, but I have decided to focus on my children and maintaining a healthy co-parenting relationship with their father," she told the news organisation.
Mia and Incognito's split will undoubtedly surprise RHOP fans. Mia has frequently boasted about their love in the ninth season of the hit series, which is presently running Sunday evenings on Bravo, implying that Incognito is coming to an end. She also included him in her official slogan.
"Marriage can be temporary, but Inc is permanent," she remarked about the Atlanta-based radio personality who co-hosts Posted on the Corner with DJ Misses.
The two were high school sweethearts who resumed their romance after Mia divorced from Gordon. They've been seemingly inseparable ever since, sharing love photos on social media and walking the red carpet together.
They even discussed having children together, with Mia telling The Daily Dish in November that "Inc does want more children."
"We're going to take our time, and while I'm not opposed to using a surrogate, he wants me to carry. And he wants two more, so please pray for me," she explained. "We are taking our time, and when the time comes, we will make a choice. But I'm absolutely looking at solutions like freezing my eggs. Because you know my biological clock is ticking. It may have tocked."
Mia gushed about Incognito during Bravo Fan Fest in late November, describing him as a partner.
"I love everything about him. He's simply great. "He's just such a beautiful person who exudes positivity, love, and support," she said. "He is drawing me closer to my faith. He is a man of God. So that is what I have not had in my prior marriage."
The reality star emphasised his vast support for her and how their connection was unlike any she had previously experienced.
"He shows up for the children. He shows up for my career. He shows up to every part of life and finally, there's no mess," she said, joking that, "Gordon was absolutely our eighth Housewife!"
That "mess" is what caused Mia and Gordon's separation in the first place.
During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in December 2023, Mia confessed that Gordon's financial troubles, which became a storyline on RHOP, contributed to their divorce. "Yeah, that has a lot to do with it, for sure," Mia told host Andy Cohen, explaining that his fight with his siblings over their firm, The Joint Chiropractic, had caused hardship for the pair and that they were "literally living off our savings."
Going to therapy on camera made their relationship "worse," Mia admitted. The "breaking point," Mia noted, was Gordon's interview with TMZ in which he discussed their sex life.
Not long after, at the RHOP season 8 reunion in April 2024, Gordon revealed that he had been diagnosed with bipolar I, a mental health condition (also known as manic-depressive disorder) that causes "extreme mood swings that include emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression)," according to Mayo Clinic.
He went on to accept full responsibility for their separation. "I fully believe that had a gotten control of this manic behaviour sooner, Mia would still be with me," according to him. "I don't think she left me because she wanted to go somewhere else. "She left me because she couldn't take it anymore."
