CPM shielding culprits in ADM’s death case, alleges DCC president

Kannur: Kannur District Congress Committee (DCC) president Martin George, on Friday, alleged that the investigation team probing the death of former ADM Naveen Babu, is showing laxity in conducting a lie detection test on TV Prasanthan. George said the police were trying to protect the culprits in the case. Prasanthan had alleged that he gave a bribe to the ADM.

"According to CPM Kannur district secretary MV Jayarajan, Prasanthan is willing to undergo a lie detection test. But the police are not taking the initiative for the test with the intention to tarnish the credibility of the ADM and create an image of a corrupt officer," the DCC president alleged at a news conference.

"CPM is still trying to whitewash the culprits who are behind Babu's death. Even after the evidence related to the benami dealings of former Kannur district president PP Divya came to light, CPM leadership is making all efforts to save her. Many CPM leaders have links with the benami dealings," George added.

George further alleged that there are rumours that the state cabinet decided to release Sherin, who was convicted in the Bhaskara Karanavar murder, under the pressure of one of the state ministers. "It should be probed how Sherin got special privilege. Women leaders in CPM, who are members of the advisory committee of Kannur Central prison, put forward a recommendation to the state govt seeking Sherin's release. This incident proved that those who have high influence will get privilege in the jail," George said.
