BENGALURU/KALABURAGI: BR Patil, senior Congress MLA and a close associate of CM Siddaramaiah, created quite a flutter in the state's political circles Saturday as he resigned from his position as the CM's political adviser. His sudden exit comes at a time when differences within Congress over clamours for changes in the party's state leadership have intensified.
"I have resigned from the position of CM's political adviser. I have already submitted my resignation to the CM," Patil said, adding: "I will continue to work as an MLA. I don't need any post."
Patil, who has been a legislator since 1983, along with Siddaramaiah, is the only MLA in the current assembly who consistently wears the Gandhi cap. tnn
Resignation reignites discontent in Congress
Known for his outspoken nature, Patil had previously opposed the govt's proposal to grant new liquor shop licences and was quite vocal about his dissatisfaction with certain other govt policies and decisions.
While sources said he was unhappy with the current political situation within Congress, Patil himself refrained from citing any specific reason for his resignation.
Patil's resignation has reignited discontent among those senior Congress legislators who were overlooked for ministerial positions after the Siddaramaiah-led govt took office in May 2023.
Patil had aspired for a ministerial berth, but reportedly faced resistance from Priyank and Sharanprakash Patil from within Kalaburagi district.
