GANDHINAGAR: After suffering its worst drubbing ever in the December 2022 Gujarat assembly election, the
Gujarat Congress is looking to strengthen its support base in urban and semi-urban areas through its Jan Manch programme.
Under this renewed urban push that the
Congress plans to start soon, 'Jan Manch' public meetings will be held in every urban and semi-urban constituency.
In Ahmedabad, these will be held in each of the 16 constituencies of the district.
"We will highlight the people's problems and issues at these meetings. The party will also raise these issues with the state government. These meetings will first be held in all the cities, after which they will be held at the taluka level as well," said a senior party leader, who said the schedule of the Jan Manch programme is currently being finalized.
Party leaders said this exercise will strengthen its support base, especially in urban and semi-urban areas, ahead of the 2024 general election and the 2025 local body elections in the state.
"People in urban and semi-urban areas are facing a number of difficulties. The Congress will raise their issues and raise a new cadre in urban areas," a Congress leader said.
With just a year until the general election, the Congress state leadership is working out a detailed urban outreach programme and national leaders will also be invited, party sources said.
