Delhi polls: NRI's rally support to Congress
AMRITSAR: A delegation of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), comprising Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) leaders from Europe and other parts of the world, is currently visiting India to lend its full support to the Congress campaign for the Delhi Assembly elections. They are specifically highlighting the critical role NRIs play in shaping the future of their country, not only through financial contributions but also by offering intellectual and strategic support.
Stating that the involvement of NRIs is crucial in highlighting the Congress party's comprehensive and broad-based vision for Delhi's future, Sukhjeevan Preet Singh Padda, leader of the delegation from Belgium, said that the active participation of NRIs in the electoral process amplifies the message that the Congress government is not only focused on addressing the immediate needs of NRIs but is also deeply committed to the welfare and overall growth and development of the common people of Delhi, with NRIs playing a key role in this progress.
Padda, along with other NRIs, was here to pay respects at the Golden Temple and Durgiana Temple. "We (NRIs) can provide invaluable insights and rally support for a government that will be consistently working for the betterment of the people of Delhi and those living abroad," said Padda.
He informed that the delegates, including Shubhlata Vashishat from Germany, Kamalpreet Singh Dhaliwal from the UK, and others, also held a meeting with senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. They discussed the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, the current political scenario in India, and the vital role of NRIs in shaping the nation’s future.
Dhaliwal informed that the discussions covered a range of important topics, including the ongoing farmers' struggle, the challenges faced by NRIs, potential investments in India, and, most significantly, strategies for channeling the energy and potential of the youth with Rahul Gandhi.
He informed that they were unanimous in their view, shared by Rahul Gandhi, that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is afraid of the Congress Party, what it stands for, and the efforts the party is making to protect the Constitution. He said Rahul Gandhi highlighted how Congress was a catalyst in strengthening ties between India and the global Indian diaspora and successfully created an atmosphere that allowed NRIs to thrive economically, culturally, and socially across the globe.
"The absence of strong leadership in India has hindered the continued growth and contribution of NRIs. We have called on the people of Delhi to vote for Congress and urged them to restore the same sense of hope, progress, and unity that NRIs once enjoyed under the party’s leadership," said Padda, adding that with Congress in power, they believe Delhi and the nation can reclaim their former glory and build a future of holistic growth and development.
