Quota activist Manoj Jarange calls fresh hunger strike for Maratha reservation from Feb 15
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Quota activist Manoj Jarange on Saturday announced a chain hunger strike at Antarwali Sarathi in Jalna district from Feb 15 to protest the failure of the state govt to fulfil any of the promises made in response to his recent agitation.
The latest stand by Jarange has baffled a section of his supporters, as the quota activist, while calling off his last agitation (seventh hunger strike), had spoken about marching to Mumbai to press for Maratha reservation."The govt is resorting to the tactic of delivering promises while stopping my agitations and turning back afterwards. The chain hunger strike by me from Feb 15 will spread across the state," he told media persons.
Jarange said plans had also been charted for agitation in Mumbai. "We are looking for public grounds where we can carry out agitations. I will make the necessary announcement in the next couple of days after talking to my supporters," he said.
Once again targeting Devendra Fadnavis, Jarange said it was the Maratha community who made him sit on the chair of CM. "Now you are betraying us. You cannot cause any damage to me, but it will not take much time for me to pull you down," he said.
Jarange started his seventh hunger strike on Jan 26 and called it off on Jan 30 after mediation by BJP MLA from Kaij Suresh Dhas. The award of Kunbi certificates to eligible Marathas in a blanket manner, extending the term of the Shinde committee to scrutinise more Kunbi records, and withdrawing criminal cases against those involved in Maratha reservation are some of the demands Jarange has made.
Reacting to the fresh agitation by Jarange, Prahar Janshakti Party leader and former minister Bachchu Kadu said the quota activist should pause his agitation for now. "There is a need for more focus on strategy and planning now. Along with agitations, he can get his demand fulfilled through talks," he said.
