Brothers clash over cremation of dad in MP, wanted to cut body into 2 pieces
Bhopal: Two sons of an elderly man, who died in a village in Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh clashed over performing the last rites on Sunday. The dispute between the brothers took an unpleasant turn leaving the villagers and relatives shocked when they insisted on performing the rituals and decided to cut the body in two parts.
While the body of Dhyani Singh Ghosh, 85, who died a natural death, was left unattended in the Tal Lidhora village, some villagers alerted the police.
Senior police officers and district administration rushed to the village on learning about the incident and tried to pacify the brothers, Damodar Singh and Kishan Singh.
When the brothers refused to relent, the officers after consultation with the family of the deceased and villagers allowed Damodar to perform the last rites in the presence of Kishan and his family under their supervision.
Police said Damodar, who had cared for his ailing father, was preparing for the cremation when Kishan arrived with his family, insisting on performing it himself. A heated argument followed by fisticuffs left the villagers shell-shocked. It was then that Kishan proposed an extreme solution—dividing the body into two so that each could conduct separate cremations.
Despite pleas from relatives and villagers, Kishan remained adamant.
