Drug peddler sentenced to 15 years in prison, fined Rs 1 lakh

Chandigarh: The UT district court convicted a drug peddler and sentenced him to 15 years in prison, besides imposing a fine of Rs 1 lakh. The convicted person has been identified as Varinderjeet Singh, a resident of Sector 45, Chandigarh.
Sector 34 police station registered a case under the NDPS Act and arrested Varinderjeet Singh with banned vials around two years ago in Dec 2022.
The police team was patrolling in Sector 45, when at around 9.40 pm they spotted the convict. The police said he appeared nervous upon seeing the police party. His behaviour aroused suspicion as he seemed anxious and tried to change his path. Consequently, the police stopped and questioned him.
Upon searching him, the police found 30 banned injectable vials in his possession. Following this, the police registered a case against him under the NDPS Act and arrested him.
