Haryana minister hands over sports portfolio to CM

Chandigarh: Former India hockey captain and Haryana minister Sandeep Singh said Sunday that he had surrendered the sports and youth welfare department portfolio to CM Manohar Lal Khattar, but he hasn’t resigned from the state cabinet following a criminal case against him in the wake of an athlete-coach accusing him of attempted rape.
The FIR against the 36-year-old minister, who is also a former Indian hockey team captain and a first-time MLA, was registered on Saturday.The chief minister office (CMO) confirmed that Sandeep Singh had relinquished the charge, but Khattar would take a call on relieving him of just the charge or even his ministerial berth after getting a go-ahead from the high command.
