Haryana minister hands over sports portfolio to CM

Sandeep Singh, a 36-year-old minister in the state of Chandigarh, India, has been accused of attempted rape. Singh has relinquished his position as sports and youth welfare minister, but he retains his ministerial seat. The chief minister's office has confirmed that Singh has relinquished his position, but they have not said if he has resigned from his cabinet. The high command is expected to take a decision on Singh's resignation or removal from his ministerial post after getting the okay from them.

Chandigarh: Former India hockey captain and Haryana minister Sandeep Singh said Sunday that he had surrendered the sports and youth welfare department portfolio to CM Manohar Lal Khattar, but he hasn’t resigned from the state cabinet following a criminal case against him in the wake of an athlete-coach accusing him of attempted rape.
The FIR against the 36-year-old minister, who is also a former Indian hockey team captain and a first-time MLA, was registered on Saturday.

The chief minister office (CMO) confirmed that Sandeep Singh had relinquished the charge, but Khattar would take a call on relieving him of just the charge or even his ministerial berth after getting a go-ahead from the high command.
