KURUKSHETRA: The Ambala unit of Haryana’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a private man and sub-divisional officer (SDO) of Kurukshetra University’s (KU) construction branch, for taking a bribe of Rs 64,000 from a contractor.
In a statement, the ACB said on Tuesday that a private man identified as Joginder Singh, who is a Kurukshetra based shopkeeper, was arrested red-handed with Rs 64,000 bribe money on Monday.
The ACB said complainant Naushad Ali of Didar Nagar, Kurukshetra alleged that he and his brother Nisar Ahmed had done the work of paint and maintenance at Harsh Bhawan and Girls Hostel in KU. “In lieu of passing the bill for the work done by me and my brother, Sunil Rohilla, SDO (C-II) of Construction Branch, KU and Burhan Ahmed of the same branch demanded a bribe of Rs 64,000 through shopkeeper Joginder Singh”, alleged Naushad.
Acting on this complaint, a trap was laid and Joginder Singh was arrested red-handed by the ACB. “SDO Sunil Rohilla was also arrested by ACB on the basis of recording done by complainant and the arrest of third accused Burhan Ahmed is still pending in this case”, reads the ACB statement.
ABC Ambala unit inspector Parveen said, “Both the arrested accused were produced before the court on Tuesday, which granted one-day police remand of SDO Sunil Rohilla and sent Joginder Singh to judicial custody. Further investigation is being done.”
