Chandigarh: Family of Sukhmanpreet Singh, alias Sippy Sidhu, who was murdered in Chandigarh's Sector 27 on Sept 20, 2015, has sought fast-track hearing of the case.
The case, which came up for hearing in a special CBI court on Monday, was adjourned to April 21.Advocate Jasmanpreet Singh Sidhu, younger brother of Sippy Sidhu, said given the passage of nine-and-a-half years since the incident, they seek court hearings on a fast-track basis.
Jasmanpreet said, "The court, in the order dated July 6, 2024, specifically said that as already so much time has passed since the murder, case management has been done according to the Supreme Court guidelines. It was specifically mentioned that the final arguments will be completed in the last week of December."Sippy Sidhu's mother Deepinder Kaur said they will fight to get justice till the last breath.
The case was transferred from the police to the CBI on April 13, 2016. On June 15, 2022, the CBI arrested the main accused, Kalyani Singh, daughter of retired Acting Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh high court. The special CBI court framed charges against Kalyani on May 4, 2024. The trial in the case began on July 8, 2024.
