Tewari seeks governor’s support for IFC in Chandigarh
Chandigarh: After writing a letter to Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman for the establishment of an international financial centre (IFC) in Chandigarh, city MP Manish Tewari has now written a letter to Punjab governor and Chandigarh administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, requesting him to raise the issue before Sitharaman through his office.
Tewari, in the letter, said since there is no possibility of establishing any large manufacturing units due to environmental concerns, the only viable method to provide employment to youth in Chandigarh, Panchkula, and Mohali is through an augmentation of the service paradigm.
"I wrote to Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The letter pertains to a request that I made to her that an International Financial Centre (IFC) on the lines of Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, be established in Chandigarh. The letter explains in detail why Chandigarh is an ideal location in north India for the establishment of an IFC and how it will give a fillip to the economy of the entire north Indian region," Tewari said in his letter to the governor.
The letter further stated: "As the administrator of Chandigarh, I would like to request you to use your good office and speak to the finance minister so that this proposal can fructify."
