ROHTAK: A Christmas celebration organised at a dharamshala in Rohtak in Haryana turned chaotic even before it could start on Wednesday when members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal stormed the venue, alleging that the event was a guise for religious conversion, reports Sat Singh. The protestors climbed on the stage and began reciting 'Hanuman Chalisa.'
WWE wrestler 'The Great Khali,' who was invited as the chief guest, left from the hotel he was staying in, without attending the event even as police intervened to disperse the protestors and asked the organisers to call off the event to maintain peace.
VHP and Bajrang Dal activists demanded that Christmas should be celebrated only within the confines of churches.
Mahant Swami Anubhoot Suryavanshi of Bajrang Dal, who led the protest, said while everyone has the right to celebrate their faith, organisers of the event in Rohtak allegedly promised money and healing illnesses in an attempt to "convert attendees." However, Rakesh, who was linked to the organisers, refuted the allegations, saying that the event was purely a Christmas celebration aimed at spreading hope and sharing the word of God with those in distress. "We were not converting anyone," he said.
