DHARMAPURI: A 24-year-old woman suffered injuries when a liquid petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder exploded in her house in Dharmapuri district of
Tamil Nadu in the early hours of Saturday .
The injured woman, identified as R Kalaiyarasi of Mottupatty near Papparapatty, is a third-year BSc student at the Dharmapuri Government Arts and Science College. Her parents, Ravi and Malar, are working in Bengaluru while Kalaiyarasi and her brother are staying at Mottupatty.
On Friday evening, Kalaiyarasi cooked food and fell asleep without turning off the gas cylinder regulator.
Gas leaked. The cylinder exploded when she switched on a light around 3am. She was thrown off and the tile-roofed house collapsed in the impact. A motor shed of a neighbouring house also collapsed.
Her brother was not at home when the explosion happened.
On being alerted, the Papparapatty police arrived at the scene and rushed Kalaiyarasi to Dharmapuri Government Medical College and Hospital. She was later referred to a private hospital in Salem.
The police registered a case.
