Erode: A minor scuffle erupted between Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) cadres and members of the Periyar Dravida Kazhagam (PDK) after the Periyarists distributed flyers with a photo of
Seeman along with BJP's lotus symbol outside a church near Panneerselvam Park in Erode on Sunday.
The byelection for the Erode East assembly constituency is scheduled for February 5. The campaigning will end on Monday evening. A total of 46 candidates, including
DMK candidate VC Chandhirakumar and NTK candidate M K Seethalakshmi, are actively campaigning.
On Sunday, Seethalakshmi and her party members were canvassing for votes outside the CSI Church near Panneerselvam Park. During this time, some PDK members arrived and handed out flyers endorsing the DMK candidate.
The NTK members were outraged after seeing NTK chief coordinator Seeman's image on the flyer with NTK symbol on one side and the BJP symbol on the other. This sparked a heated exchange between the two groups.
Police, present for security, stepped in and pacified the two groups. However, PDK members continued to distribute the flyers at the Panneerselvam Park, prompting NTK members to scuffle with them.
Police intervened to halt the conflict and escorted the PDK members away from the area.
