New Delhi: Union minister
Rajnath Singh said on Sunday that since Delhi has remained under the control of either Congress or AAP for the last 25 years, it has failed to achieve the development it deserves.
"Delhi, the heart of India, was deprived of the progress seen across the country. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India emerged as one of the fastest growing economies in the world, but Delhi was left behind," he said.
The defence minister addressed large rallies in Rajendra Nagar, Chandni Chowk and Laxmi Nagar on Sunday. He stressed that there was an urgent need for BJP's leadership in Delhi. He highlighted the failures of AAP govt, especially on anti-corruption and governance, and attempted to present a compelling vision for Delhi's future under BJP's leadership.
In Rajendra Nagar, he campaigned for Umang Bajaj. He criticised AAP for its lack of cooperation with the Centre, which, he added, was a key factor hindering the city's growth.
The minister condemned the Kejriwal-led administration for its poor infrastructure, citing the deteriorating state of roads, especially during the rainy season. "It's difficult to tell if there are potholes in the roads or roads in the potholes," he said.
He spoke about BJP's commitment to fulfilling promises made in its election manifesto. The minister further criticised Kejriwal for his failure to deliver on key promises. He said Kejriwal, who once criticised the need for a govt residence, built an extravagant house for himself.
He also pointed out that despite the previous govt's efforts, AAP failed to put in place necessary infrastructure, such as better roads, water supply and electricity in unauthorised colonies.
Singh promised that BJP would continue to deliver welfare programs to the people, including providing affordable healthcare, clean water, better education, and support for women and children. He mentioned specific plans, such as cleaning the Yamuna and providing financial assistance to pregnant women.
Hundreds of other party functionaries, including CMs of different states, campaigned for the party in various areas of Delhi. MP Anurag Thakur addressed gatherings in Karawal Nagar, Mustafabad, Kalkaji, Vikaspuri, Matiala, Harinagar and Motinagar. He said the restlessness, anxiety and panic were clear signs that Kejriwal was losing the election. "His frustration and despair are clearly visible on his face. His restlessness, panic and confusion show that he and his party, the AAP, are about to lose power in Delhi," he said.
