New Delhi: Congress MP
Ajay Maken criticised AAP's governance on Sunday, particularly in education and air pollution management.
He quoted numbers to highlight the alleged deterioration in public transport since 2013, after Congress lost power.
Maken said it was surprising that despite Delhi's population increasing sharply, admissions of students in govt schools under the Kejriwal govt have come down, with fewer students passing out of Class XII, though the situation should have been the opposite.
"During the Congress regime in 2008-09, 75,974 students passed the 12th board exams, and the number rose to 1,47,420 when Congress left office in 2013-14. However, under the AAP govt in 2015-16, the students who passed the 12th board exams came down to 116,792, and the number further slumped to 109,098 in 2019-20," Maken said.
"Similarly, under the Congress govt in 2013-14, 1,66,257 students appeared for the 12th board exams, while under the AAP govt in 2023-24, the number came down to 51,429."
Data had revealed an increase in ageing buses, fewer depots, and declining DTC ridership. "This decline in public transport led to increased private vehicle ownership, contributing to air pollution. Kejriwal puts the blame on the farmers for his own incompetence and inability to control air pollution. According to TERI, vehicular emissions, which were 28% in 2016, accounted for 47% of the total estimated PM2.5 in the capital."
Maken said that Delhi sees approximately 1,800 new vehicles daily. "When Congress was in power in 2012-13, DTC carried 46.77 lakh passengers per day. The number fell sharply to 24.43 lakh by Aug 2024," he said.
He further added that the number of buses in the DTC fleet fell from 5,609 in 2012-13 to 4,541 in Aug 2024, and the number of depots fell from 43 to 38. "When Congress left power, there were 1,440 overaged DTC buses, and the number rose to 2,866. The people have understood the fake models of Kejriwal and are determined to vote for Congress on Feb 5," Maken said.
