GHAZIABAD: Around 40 vehicles collided due to dense fog on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway under the jurisdiction of Muradnagar police station on Wednesday. One person was injured in the incident.
According to police, the injured person is identified as Shoaib, a resident of Kattha village in Baghpat.
Siddharth Gautam, ACP of Masuri, said that around 9am police received information regarding the accident. Immediately, a police team reached the site and found that 40 vehicles coming from Baghpat to the Ghaziabad side collided with each other due to fog near the Revda Revdi village in Muradnagar.
“Some people received minor injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals. After treatment, they were released. Meanwhile, one of the people, Shoaib, received some major injuries and was immediately sent to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. His family came and took him to a private hospital in Baghpat in an ambulance, and his condition is stable,” he said.
“The movement of traffic was disturbed for some time, but all vehicles have been moved to one side, and traffic has resumed. We are still removing the damaged vehicles from the road with the help of a crane,” he said.
Mohmad Sehnwaz, a commuter, said that he was travelling with his family members to see one of the relatives who is admitted to a hospital in Delhi. Due to dense fog, he was driving carefully, but suddenly, one by one, all vehicles collided. “My brother and one more family member received minor injuries, and the cops took them to Manipal Hospital. They were released after some time of treatment,” he said.
In another accident, at around 8.15am on Wednesday, approximately 25 to 30 vehicles collided due to dense fog on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway in the direction from Meerut to Delhi under the jurisdiction of Bhojpur police station.
Gyan Prakash Rai, ACP Modinagar said that five people were injured, with one person in serious condition and four others having minor injuries. All the injured have been admitted to the hospital for treatment. The collided vehicles have been moved to the side to ensure smooth traffic flow, and necessary actions are being taken regarding the incident.
