GHAZIABAD: Passenger services will begin on rapid rail's Delhi section from 5pm on Sunday after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates it in the morning and, like he did during the inauguration of Delhi Metro's Magenta Line, take a ride too.
Modi is scheduled to land at the Indian Air Force base in Hindon at 11am and head to Sahibabad station of the rapid rail (Namo Bharat) corridor on Vaishali link road. The section being opened runs from Sahibabad to New Ashok Nagar.

But while the PM takes a train ride, this won't be the official inauguration of the Delhi section of the corridor. That, officials said, will happen at a ceremony in Rohini, where Modi will head to from New Ashok Nagar station after completing his train ride.
There was daylong buzz on Saturday about chief minister Yogi Adityanath receiving the PM at Hindon and accompanying him to Sahibabad. But sources confirmed late night that the CM will attend the event virtually from Lucknow.
Starting Oct 2023, all sections of the 82km Delhi-Meerut rapid rail corridor opened so far have been in UP. Trains now run on a 42km route spanning nine stations, from Sahibabad - from which the PM had flagged off the first train in 2023 - to Meerut South. The Delhi section will add two stations to this and take the operational length of the corridor to 55km. The full corridor is likely to open by June 2025.
The NCR Transport Corporation, which runs rapid rail, released the fare module for the two Delhi stations on Saturday. "The fare for a one-way ride from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South will be Rs 150 in the standard coach. From Anand Vihar to Meerut South, the standard coach fare will be Rs 130," said an NCRTC official. "For the premium coach, the fare from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South will be Rs 255, and Rs 195 from Anand Vihar to Meerut South." Rapid rail trains have one premium coach (red seats) and five standard coaches (blue seats).
Stations that will be operational from Sunday evening are New Ashok Nagar, Anand Vihar (the only underground station of the corridor for now), Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, Duhai Depot, Muradnagar, Modinagar South, Modinagar North and Meerut South.
The first rapid rail segment to open was the 17km priority section from Sahibabad to Duhai in Oct 2023. The next section, also 17km, to open was Duhai to Modi Nagar North in March 2024. Last Aug, an 8km stretch from Modi Nagar North to Meerut South was operationalised. The ride between New Ashok Nagar and Meerut South will take under 40 minutes.
