‘State BJP will get new prez in Oct’
Panaji: The state BJP unit will get a new president in October after completing the first phase of the membership drive launched on Tuesday. Chief minister Pramod Sawant said that BJP has set a target to make 5 lakh of 12.5 lakh voters its members.
State BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade was elected president of the state unit in Jan 2020 for three years.

Ahead of the Lok Sabha , BJP national executive extended his tenure till June.
Sawant, along with Tanavade, Union minister of state Shripad Naik and revenue minister Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate, launched BJP’s primary membership drive.
Stating that the membership drive is important for the 2027 assembly election, Sawant urged the public to join BJP as primary members. He said that those willing to work for the national interest should dial and become BJP members.
Tanavade said that within hours of the launch of the national drive on Monday, between 5pm and 8.30pm, 31,000 Goans gave a missed call to become primary members of the party and 9,000 Goans have completed the process.
He said that by Oct-end, the first phase of the primary membership would be completed. “After completing the primary membership, the process to elect party presidents will commence. Our election process is not from top to bottom, and is not restricted to any family. Any primary member is eligible to contest any post,” Tanavade said.
He added that the booth level committees will be elected first, followed by assembly, then district and state elections. After completing state elections, the national president would be elected, Tanavade said.
