Aizawl: The 10th anniversary of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) and National Girl Child Day 2025 was observed throughout
Mizoram on Friday, coinciding with nationwide celebrations.
At an event in Aizawl, organised by State Hub for Empowerment of Women (SHEW) and the Directorate of Women & Child Development (WCD), Mizoram, chief secretary Khilli Ram Meena served as chief guest. He commended the efforts of various stakeholders whilst highlighting that Mizoram's child sex ratio surpassed the national average. However, he noted that the state's figures remained below optimal levels, with specific areas requiring improvement according to statistical data.
"Empowering girls for a bright future" was designated as the day's theme. The programme included recognition of select girls for their accomplishments in Academics (STEM) and Sports. Participants took an oath to ensure equal opportunities and a secure future for girl children, led by Jennifer Lalrinzuali Renthlei, Miss Mizoram 2024 and WCD Ambassador.
State Sports & Youth Services Secretary Lalramsanga Sailo addressed the gathering and unveiled the BBBP Mizoram Theme Song. LR Ruata composed this song, titled ‘Pen zel rawh' or march ahead.
The tenth anniversary celebrations of BBBP will extend to district and block levels until March 8, 2025, featuring comprehensive awareness activities in various formats.
